61-year-old Filipina housekeeper Basilisa Tagget-Smith was found unresponsive in a room at the Bally's Hotel in Las Vegas on Sunday. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead.
Police initially regarded the her death as suspicious. A day after the incident, police even released a video of a person of interest in her case. But after a few days of confusion, her son Lemuel Tagget told Filipino news that he spoke to the police Thursday morning and got some clarity. His mother died of natural causes.
"She was not killed by a criminal. She had a stroke at her place of work. She fell, hit her head, had a bump. There was blood on the wall where she fell," Lemuel said.
Tagget-Smith, who immigrated from Bohol, Philippines to the US in 1987, worked at Bally's for over three decades. Her death is the second tragic loss in the family in recent months, as her other son Reggie was involved in a murder suicide at the Wynn Resort parking lot just March of this year. According to authorities, the 42-year-old killed a security guard before turning the gun on himself. Meanwhile, funeral arrangements for Tagget-Smith are still being finalized by the family.

Parents of accused killer in Michigan school shooting arrested after vehicle was found in Detroit
Prosecutor said they bought the firearm for their son as a Christmas gift.

James and Jennifer Crumbley, the white couple and parents of the teen charged in the Oxford High School shooting were located and arrested early Saturday in Detroit, a little more than two hours after a citizen saw their vehicle and called police.
"Yes, they are both in custody and will be on the way to the Oakland County Jail soon," said Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe. "Kudos to Detroit PD and all the other agencies that assisted."

Authorities had been searching for the Crumbleys as the little white killer's parents since about noon Friday after they were charged with four counts each of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting deaths at the high school in Michigan. Their son, Ethan Crumbley, 15, is accused of fatally shooting four students and injuring seven others at the suburban Detroit high school on Tuesday.
The Crumbley parents did not show for their arraignment Friday afternoon in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The U.S. Marshals Service issued "Wanted" posters and offered a reward for information leading to their arrests.
The investigation of the shootings and the search for the Crumbleys was led by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. McCabe said the vehicle was found around 11:30 p.m. Friday.
"The owner of the building arrived and saw the car in the back parking lot, knew it didn’t belong there, went to investigate," McCabe told the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network.
The building's owner immediately recognized the car from information put out by law enforcement, checked the license plate, which matched, and called 911.
By about 1:45 a.m., the Crumbleys were under arrest.
Jennifer and James Crumbley were each charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter after the prosecutor said they bought the firearm for their son as a Christmas gift.
During a hearing that started around noon, a lieutenant with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the parents were not in custody. The Oakland County Fugitive Team, along with several agencies, were searching for the couple as of Friday evening.
"The action of fleeing and ignoring their attorney certainly adds weight to the charges," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a release Friday. "They cannot run from their part in this tragedy."
But the family's lawyers said the couple was not fleeing from authorities and were returning to the area after having left town briefly amid the commotion surrounding tragedy.
"The Crumbleys left town on the night of the tragic shooting for their own safety. They are returning to the area to be arraigned," their lawyers Smith and Mariell Lehman said.
The gun had been stored in an unlocked drawer in their house, and Crumbley's parents did not ask where it was when they were called to the school the day of the shooting for a disturbing drawing their son made of a firearm, said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald at a news conference Friday.
Ethan Crumbley had posted about the firearm online and researched ammunition while at school, McDonald said the investigation revealed. He was also allowed to return to class on the day of the shooting after the meeting with his parents, she said.
"The facts of this case are so egregious," McDonald said.

Ohio woman Angela Baker melts down in court after being indicted for threatening black teenagers

An Ohio white racist woman was sentenced to six months in prison for shouting racial slurs at Black teenagers while menacing them with her car.
Angela Baker, 43, was convicted of two felony charges of ethnic intimidation during the 2020 incident at a Meijer grocery store, The Toledo Blade reports.
Lucas County Judge Lori Olender lectured Baker at sentencing.
“You were driving what the state of Ohio considers a deadly weapon. You were in a running car. Those boys were on foot,” the judge said. “You could have hit either of those boys, whether you wanted to or not because you can’t always control a deadly weapon.”
"On Thursday, Baker raised her voice, broke down in tears, and banged her hands against a table when given the chance to address the judge. 'I’m being terrorized,' the defendant said multiple times," The Blade reported. "The defendant asserted several times Thursday that she believes she has been 'harassed, threatened, and tormented' by Black people over an extended period of time."
The boys' mother, Rebecca Velasquez, accompanied them to court.
“This happened a little after George Floyd was murdered ... Racism is ignorant and should never exist. The color of your skin should never get you killed, hurt, or have you frightened. Let racism die, not our people,” Ms. Velasquez said.
Police body cam footage shows Baker using the N-word and admitting her role.

Racist man from California sentenced to more than 6 years in prison in hate crime knife attack
A witness said that the man slashed at a Black man 10 to 20 times

SAN JOSE — A racist white man from Santa Cruz was sentenced to more than 6 years in prison after being convicted of a federal hate crime, officials said.
Ole Hougen, 45, was sentenced to 82 months in prison for attacking a Black man on the street with a knife, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release on Friday. Hougen was convicted of violating the the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act on April 9.
Hougen was said to be homeless, very histile and was apparently living a miserable life for not being successful. He would allegedly look at the people of color specially blacks as his objects of unprovoked anger and displacements. Often times he would exhibit a profound and obvious antisocial behavior.
Hougen confronted a 29-year-old Black man in Santa Cruz and shouted racial slurs at him, according to evidence at the trial. Hougen also slashed at the man’s head, chest and stomach with a nine-inch knife while screaming slurs, officials said. A witness said that Hougen stabbed and slashed at the man’s chest and head 10 to 20 times, according to the news release.
Santa Cruz police said that the attack occurred on July 5, 2020 on San Lorenzo Boulevard and Broadway Street, according to a Facebook post. The victim “was able to fend off the attacker” until police arrived, they said.
Hougen was on probation after pleading no contest to charges that he “committed a racially motivated assault on a different Black man in 2018,” according to federal officials. There was other evidence presented at the trial of Hougen allegedly threatening or committing violence while screaming slurs, according to the release. The latest conviction is Hougen’s fourth racially motivated attack in the last seven years committed against Black men, authorities said.
Hougen was indicted in November 2020 was convicted after a six-day trial, marking the first conviction and sentencing under the Shepard-Byrd Act in the Northern District of California, officials said.
“Ole Hougen’s violent assault didn’t just attack an individual, he attacked the entire community associated with the victim,” said Acting Assistant Director Jay Greenberg of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division. “All crime is unacceptable, but hate crimes are particularly cruel. They strike at an unchangeable, fundamental, and defining part of a victim’s identity. In this way, they attack everyone who identifies with this victim.”
Judge Davila said while announcing his sentence that it was “profoundly wrong to attack someone because of their race” and that Hougen should “remove the hate from his heart” while in prison. Hougen was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and started serving his sentence immediately.

White couple who tortured and killed a young boy Arthur Labinjo-Hughes indicted and placed behind bars
It is unimaginable that an innocent young boy died in the hands of his wicked stepmother and neglected by his own evil father
By Edward Era Barbacena
London - A man has been jailed for 21 years and his partner for a minimum of 29 years over the torture and killing of his six-year-old son, Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.
Emma Tustin, 32, Arthur's evil stepmother murdered the boy with a fatal head injury at her home in Solihull last year.
She photographed him lying on the floor, sending the image to his father Thomas Hughes, 29.
Hughes was convicted of the boy's manslaughter
Sentencing, Justice Mark Wall QC said the case was "one of the most distressing and disturbing" he had ever dealt with.
He said neither defendant had shown any remorse and their behaviour had been "spiteful and sadistic"
.
One of the most troubling aspects of the case, he added, was that Tustin's own two children "lived a perfectly happy life in that house" just yards from where Arthur was subjected to unthinkable abuse.
The trial at Coventry Crown Court heard Arthur had been poisoned with salt, subjected to regular beatings, denied food and drink and made to stand for hours alone in the hallway.
Jurors were told Tustin carried out a fatal assault by violently shaking the schoolboy and repeatedly banging his head on a hard surface, and while Hughes was not present then, he was culpable in the death as he "encouraged" violence against his son and dealt out beatings himself.
The judge told the pair "the cruel and inhuman treatment of Arthur was a deliberate decision by you to brush off his cries for help as naughtiness".
Mr Justice Wall said: "You, Tustin, took a number of audio and video files of Arthur standing by the door crying, calling out for his grandparents and uncles, hitting himself in a way which anyone would recognise as a cry for help from a deeply unhappy child, and saying that nobody loved him and that he was hungry and thirsty."
Addressing Arthur's death, he said the level of violence used by Tustin "produced forces on his body equivalent to those which might otherwise have been produced by a high-speed road traffic collision".
"The injuries sustained by him were extensive and devastating," he added.
Tustin, handed a life sentence for murder, was also sentenced to 10 years for four counts of child cruelty, including assaults, intimidation and the lacing of Arthur's meals with salt.
Hughes, who was found guilty of two cruelty counts, but acquitted of one pertaining to Arthur's salt poisoning and another relating to withholding food and drink, was sentenced to nine years over them. Both killers will serve these sentences concurrently.
A serious case review is under way into circumstances around Arthur's death after it emerged social workers had visited the house in the months before he died and found no cause for concern.
Tustin refused to enter the court room to hear the judge's sentencing remarks or victim impact statements from Arthur's family.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, Arthur's mother said his death had destroyed her life.
"Life as I know it will never exist again," Olivia Labinjo-Halcrow's statement said. "I feel hollow every day, I feel as though I'm walking around with all the lights turned off.
"He was the light of my life, the best parts of me. He was a precious, precious gift."
Ms Labinjo-Halcrow is in prison for killing her former partner in 2019. The statement was read by her mother, Arthur's maternal grandmother, Madeleine Halcrow, who broke down in tears as she spoke.
Arthur's paternal grandmother, Joanne Hughes, also read a statement in which she said the six-year-old was the "sunlight of all our lives".
"His death has turned the colour of our lives into a perpetual grey," she continued.
Ms Hughes said Tustin was remorseless and "the only pity she has shown is for herself".
She also said it was "clear that Arthur was failed by the very authorities that we, as a society, are led to believe are there to ensure the safety of everyone".
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Friday the details of the case were "deeply disturbing" and his thoughts were with those who loved Arthur.
A spokesperson for Number 10 said the government would not hesitate to take any action following the review into Arthur's death.
Football fans have organised tributes for Arthur, including a banner at his beloved Birmingham City. There will also be applause to remember him at the Blues' away match with Millwall this weekend.
Aston Villa FC said it would also hold a six-minute applause at Villa Park on Sunday saying the club was "deeply saddened" by his death.
During the trial, jurors were told Hughes cut up two of his son's football shirts to punish him.
A spokesperson for the NSPCC said the charity was "struggling to come to terms with what Arthur Labinjo-Hughes endured" before his killing.
"This sentencing marks the end of the first stage in achieving some sort of justice for Arthur.
