American man of Iowa charged with first-degree murder in stabbing death of woman

Monte Eckles, 56, has been arrested on 1st degree murder charges in Britt, Iowa

A white man of  Iowa  is charged with first-degree murder after police say he stabbed a woman to death.

According to investigators, Britt police officers were called on March 4 to a home on Fourth Street Southeast for a disturbance. When they arrived, officers found a woman who died from apparent stab wounds.

The woman has been identified as 62-year-old Leallen Bergman, of Ventura.

Also on the scene was the suspect, 56-year-old Monte Eckels, of Britt. He has been charged with the crime.

Eckels was transported to the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
