British homosexual teacher of Eastbourne abused position of trust to sexually molest a young boy in the 90s

Peter Turner was subsequently charged with seven counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14

By Edward Era Barbacena

A former teacher and football referee abused his position of trust to sexually assault a young boy in the 1990s.

Peter Turner, of Redoubt Road, Eastbourne, repeatedly assaulted his victim in multiple locations including the school classroom, his office and his home address.

The 65-year-old also actively ingratiated himself with the victim’s family to gain closer access to him and mask his offending.

The incidents took place over a number of months and related to Turner’s role as both a teacher and manager of the school’s football team.

His offending came to light in 2016 when his victim reported it to the police. Turner was no longer working as a teacher at that time.

An extremely complex investigation was launched, including the forensic examination of over 70 electronic devices seized from Turner’s address, while the victim was supported by specialist officers.

Turner was subsequently charged with seven counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14 in 2022.

At Hove Crown Court on Friday, November 3, he was found guilty on all counts.

At Hove Crown Court on Wednesday, November 29, Turner was sentenced to 14 years in prison and will be on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Passing sentence, HHJ Rennie described Turner as a “despicable human being” who had abused his position as a teacher to subject his victim to multiple sexual assaults, and abused the trust placed in him by all parents who send their children to school.

Police Constable Steve Hargrave said: “I would like to pay testament to the faith and strength shown by the victim to stay committed to this process during the length of this investigation.

“Sussex Police takes all allegations of this nature extremely seriously and will investigate them fully, no matter how long ago the offences occurred.

“I hope this significant jail sentence provides Peter Turner’s victim with some measure of closure as he looks to move on with his life.”

James  Richard Beauchamp sexually abused a 17-year-old boy in Grand Haven Hotel

By Edward Era Barbacena

A 55-year-old Kentwood man has been arrested after a months-long investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office into the alleged sexual assault of a teenager.

OCSO began its investigation in August, after the incident occurred in a hotel in the city of Grand Haven.

The investigation found the suspect, James “Jimmy” Richard Beauchamp of Kentwood, allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with a 17-year-old boy after providing him alcohol. The victim was also photographed without his knowledge or consent.

The case was turned over to the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office and charges were authorized Nov. 29. They include criminal sexual conduct in the second degree during the commission of a felony, child sexual abusive activity, using a computer to commit a crime, and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Beauchamp was taken into custody in Kentwood on Friday, Dec. 1, without incident and lodged in the Ottawa County Jail. He was arraigned Friday in 58th District Court. His bond was sent at $500,000 and he remained in custody at the jail as of Monday.

Beauchamp was formerly affiliated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids, according to OCSO, and had contact with teens and young adults throughout his employment and volunteer work. He was not a priest.

The $50 million suit comes more than 15 years after Joan Meyer allegedly had sex with her teenage pupil while teaching at two Washington, D.C., charter schools

Aformer student who says he was sexually abused by his teacher starting at age 14 claims two Washington, D.C., schools failed to investigate her behavior — allowing her to continue abusing him, while moving from school-to-school, according to a new lawsuit.

The $50 million suit comes more than 15 years after the abuse allegedly began.

The former teacher, Joan Meyer, was criminally charged after her accuser reportedly emailed one of the schools numerous times in 2019 and told them about the abuse.

Meyer, now 48, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor in 2021 and was sentenced to six months in prison, according to the suit.

The accuser, identified as John Doe in court papers, filed the lawsuit Friday against Meyer, Two Rivers Public Charter School and Cesar Chavez Public Charter School in U.S. District Court in the nation’s capital.

A former principal at Two Rivers, James May, was also named as a defendant in the suit.

In the suit, Doe alleges he first met Meyer in 2007 when he was 12 years old at a Two Rivers potluck in the northeast section of Washington

Cory Herthel sexually exploited children from Venezuela and Cuba

By Edward Era Barbacena

A Green Bay pastor was sentenced to over ten years in federal prison for online sex crimes targeting children in Venezuela, Cuba, and Spain.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, 40-year-old Cory J. Herthel was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the online enticement of the children.

In May 2023, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was contacted by the church where Herthel was employed as a pastor regarding information it had obtained indicating that Herthel had possibly been involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a minor living in Venezuela.

An ensuing investigation revealed that Herthel sent the child videos of himself masturbating, and at Herthel’s request, the minor sent similar videos and images in return.

Court documents show that Hertel acknowledged knowing the minor from a mission trip he had taken to Ecuador, where he met the child begging on the streets. The child and his mother returned to his native Venezuela, and Herthel kept in touch with the child.

Herthel was confronted by law enforcement with images of him masturbating and acknowledged sending the videos to the child whom he knew to be a minor.

Herthel also acknowledged asking the child to send him sexually explicit images and masturbation videos and admitted to sending the child monetary payments via various online applications.

Further investigations revealed that Herthel was also exchanging explicit images and videos with a minor child located in Cuba. Herthel assisted the child’s move to Spain with the ultimate goal of bringing him to the United States. Herthel visited the minor on several occasions in Spain and acknowledged engaging in a sexual relationship with the child.

Finally, court records show that Herthel solicited sexually explicit images and videos from a second child in Cuba, to whom he had also sent monetary payments.

At Herthel’s sentencing on Monday, Judge William Griesbach described Herthel’s crime as “terrible” and “an abuse of spiritual authority.” Judge Griesbach also referenced the strong need to deter Herthel and others who may attempt to engage in similar conduct.

Following Herthel’s 15-year sentence, he will spend the next 20 on supervised release and will be required to register as a sexual offender for the remainder of his life.

She is being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $5 million bail.

Mass stabbing in France leaves one German tourist dead and two others injured in Paris

Mass stabbing in France leaves one German tourist dead and two others injured in Paris

French officials launch probe into 'terror plot' after 'convicted Iranian Islamist' stabbed German tourist to death and wounded two during rampage near the Eiffel Tower

By Edward Era Barbacena

A bloodstain by a bridge over the Seine river was the only remaining sign on Sunday of a fatal knife attack 12 hours earlier on a German tourist, allegedly carried out by a young man under watch for suspected Islamic radicalization.

The random attack near the Eiffel Tower has drawn special concern for the French capital less than a year before it hosts the Olympic Games, with the opening ceremony due to take place along the river in an unprecedented scenic start in the heart of Paris.

After killing the tourist, the suspect crossed the bridge to the city's Right Bank and wounded two people with a hammer, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said Saturday night. The suspect, who apparently cried "Allahu Akbar" (God is great), was arrested.

Video circulating on the internet showed police officers, weapons drawn, cornering a man dressed in black, his face covered and what appeared to be a knife in his right hand. They twice tasered the suspect before arresting him, Darmanin said.

Questioned by police, the suspect expressed anguish about Muslims dying, notably in Afghanistan and the Palestinian territories, and claimed that France was an accomplice, Darmanin said.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on X, formerly Twitter, that the news from Paris was "shocking."

"My thoughts are with the friends and family of the young German man," she wrote. "Almost his entire life was before him. ... Hate and terror have no place in Europe."

The French interior minister said the suspect was born in 1997 in Neuilly-Sur-Seine, outside Paris. He had been convicted and jailed for four years, until 2020, for planning violence, was under psychiatric treatment, tracked for suspected Islamic radicalization and was on a special list for feared radicals.

The French media widely reported that the man, who lived with his parents in the Essonne region, outside Paris, was of Iranian origin.

The case was turned over to the anti-terrorism prosecutor's office.

"This person was ready to kill others," Darmanin told reporters, who along with other government members and President Emmanuel Macron praised police officers for their response.

Well-known emergency doctor Patrick Pelloux, who was among the first at the scene, told BFM-TV there was blood everywhere. Pelloux said he was told by the victim's entourage that the suspect stopped them to ask for a cigarette, then plunged his knife into the victim. "He aimed at the head, then the back. He knew where to strike," Pelloux said.

The daily Le Parisien, in an in-depth report published Sunday, said the suspect had a history of contacts via social networks with two men notorious for the gruesome killing of a priest during Mass in 2016 in Saint-Etienne du Rouvray and the man who killed a police couple at their home in Yvelines, west of Paris, a month earlier.

France has been under a heightened terror alert since the fatal stabbing in October of a teacher in the northern city of Arras by a former student originally from the Ingushetia region in Russia's Caucasus Mountains and suspected of Islamic radicalization. That came three years after another teacher was killed outside Paris, beheaded by a radicalized Chechen later killed by police.

The attack brought into sharp focus authorities' concern for potential terrorist violence during the 2024 Games.

Just days earlier, the Paris police chief had unveiled detailed plans for the Olympic Games' security in Paris, with zones where traffic will be restricted and people will be searched. The police chief, Laurent Nunez, said one of their concerns is that vehicles could be used as battering rams to plow through Olympic crowds.
