Aformer student who says he was sexually abused by his teacher starting at age 14 claims two Washington, D.C., schools failed to investigate her behavior — allowing her to continue abusing him, while moving from school-to-school, according to a new lawsuit.
The $50 million suit comes more than 15 years after the abuse allegedly began.
The former teacher, Joan Meyer, was criminally charged after her accuser reportedly emailed one of the schools numerous times in 2019 and told them about the abuse.
Meyer, now 48, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor in 2021 and was sentenced to six months in prison, according to the suit.
The accuser, identified as John Doe in court papers, filed the lawsuit Friday against Meyer, Two Rivers Public Charter School and Cesar Chavez Public Charter School in U.S. District Court in the nation’s capital.
A former principal at Two Rivers, James May, was also named as a defendant in the suit.
In the suit, Doe alleges he first met Meyer in 2007 when he was 12 years old at a Two Rivers potluck in the northeast section of Washington
