Manila - Former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has offered to shoulder the expenses of George Floyd's funeral and other expenses and the family has agreed to accept the offer.
Mayweather has been constantly getting in touch with George Floyd's family, according to Leonard Ellerbe the CEO of Mayweather promotions. He will take care of all the costs of the funeral on June 9 in Floyd's hometown of Houston, as well as other expenses.
George Floyd a black American who was murdered by Minneapolis cop Dereck Chauvin when he pressed his knee on the back of Floyd's neck while being pinned down facing the ground with both of his hands behind his back causing him to suffocate and later died. He told Chauvin that he couldn't breathe as he begged for his life but the white cop ignored his plea. The death of George Floyd has sparked protests across the United States denouncing the crime committed by a white cop against a helpless black American. Some protests had escalated to riots.
TMZ originally reported about Mayweather's offer, and said that he will pay for the services in Minneapolis and North Carolina.
"He'll probably get mad at me for saying that, but yes, he is paying for the funeral," Ellerbe told ESPN on Monday.
Mayweather who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada has not yet met Floyd's family.
