More than a hundred were killed by lightning in a single day as monsoon storms rage across the eastern and northern part of India on Thursday in the state of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, official said. BBC reported that the total fatalities was around 103 but according to the Philippines' ABS-CBN, it was 107.
Earlier reports of the officials of the Disaster Management Control Room in the capital state of Patna involved 83 deaths occurred in the different districts of Bihar.
The deaths have been reported just as the monsoon swept across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Most of the victims were farmers and the homeless ones who were outside, disaster management official Umesh Singh said.
Singh also stated that others were severely injured as the heavy rains and strong high-speed wind brought down trees, electric poles, unstable houses and unfinished structures.
