An Asian Brooklyn food deliveryman was stabbed in the back by a bicyclist in a possible hate crime, police said Monday.
The 53-year-old victim, who is expected to recover, was riding a bike making deliveries on Fulton St. near Eldert Lane in East New York when the attacker rode up behind him about 4 p.m. Sunday, mysteriously asking “What happened?”
The victim slows down on his bike and turns towards the attacker, who is wearing a green ski mask, video released by cops shows.
Without even slowing down on his bike, the assailant whipped out a large knife and stabbed the victim in the back while passing by, knocking him to the ground, the video shows.
Medics took the victim to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition with a puncture wound to his back. The stabber pedaled away and has not been caught.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident as a possible bias crime because the victim is Asian. Hate crimes against Asians have soared this year.
The suspect is described as about 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds with a slim build. He was wearing a bright green hoodie, black pants and black sneakers.
