The man convicted of 1st-degree murder in the shooting death last February of his ex-girlfriend will spend the rest of his life in prison.
A judge handed down that life sentence to Christian Goyne-Yarns this afternoon in a Dickinson County courtroom after denying his defense team's motion for a new trial.
A jury in Storm Lake convicted Goyne-Yarns of 1st-degree murder last month in the February 3rd shooting of Shelby Woizeschke outside her workplace in Milford. In addition to the life sentence, Goyne-Yarns was also ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to his two sons with Woizeschke.
His lawyer says he will now appeal the conviction to the Iowa Supreme Court.
