President Vladimir Putin didn't unleash big cats to force people to stay at home

The Covid-19 Pandemic News - Russia

Moscow, Russia - Right now, many countries have already imposed lockdown of the affected areas that has an alarming cases of Covid-19 and confirmed deaths. The corona virus has already claimed more than 13,000 lives world-wide since it was detected in Wuhan.

Amid the pandemic, a post that has become viral claiming that the Russian President Vladimir Putin has unleashed around 800 tigers and lions  in the country's streets to force people to stay in their homes.  Facebook page "Humor TV" posted a photo of a lone lion that was walking in the street with a caption,  "Vladimir Putin has dropped 800 tigers and lion all over the country to stay homes."  This post by Humor TV was shared more than 18,000 times that it became viral on social media including Twitter.

However,  the post published by Humor TV was actually a false claim.  According to Anti Fake News War Room or AFWA,  the photo of a lion walking on the street was taken in South Africa in 2016 in Johannesburg. In addition, Daily News reported that the lion called Columbus was brought for filming by the movie crew in Johannesburg.

Therefore, the photo of a lon roaming in the street of  Johannesburg, South Africa had nothing to do with the quaratine in Russia imposed by President Vladimir Putin. The  reason why the Covid-19 cases and death toll are relatively low is because President Putin only gave two options to the Russian people, it's either you stay at home for two weeks or go to jail for five years.  There's no middle ground.
