A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed more than 40 times by a suspect who was attempting to behead him inside a shop in Florida this week, according to reports.

The horrifying incident unfolded on Monday evening in Punta Gorda, a city in Lee County.

The victim and suspect entered The Trading Post at Burnt Store Marina to grab a bite to eat when things took a shocking turn.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Edmund Clarke, grabbed scissors from a counter and started stabbing the victim.

Clarke then retrieved several knives and continued slashing his victim for several minutes in an “attempt to behead him,” authorities say.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) released surveillance footage showing the moments leading up to the barbaric attack.

“Deputies arrived on scene and located a victim who had been stabbed more than 40 times in the head, neck, and torso,” LCSO explained in a statement.

“The victim was airlifted to Gulf Coast Medical Center, where they underwent emergency surgery.”

Clarke reportedly knew his victim as he had worked for the man’s family for many years.

“The arrest report says the victim had picked up Clarke at the hospital after the victim’s father asked him to fly down from Chicago. Clarke had been in the hospital for abdominal pain,” WINK reports.

“The arrest report says one person explained that Clarke became enraged after leaving the hospital and appeared as though he was hallucinating while making accusations toward someone.”

Clarke has been charged with Attempted Murder.
