Ramsey County State’s Attorney Beau Cummings says the case against a former Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy charged with possession of child pornography is being moved to federal court.
Cummings says the penalties 25-year-old Michael Hull could face in the federal court system are harsher than those available in state court.
In a corresponding move, prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss the charge against Hull on Thursday.
Hull was fired from the sheriff’s department in January, shortly after his arrest. Authorities allege Hull had uploaded numerous images of child porn to a Google drive. At the time of his firing, Hull had worked for the sheriff’s office for about two years.
