Four students were shot outside Westinghouse Academy 6-12 in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The shooting happened shortly after the 2:15 p.m. dismissal time for the school day. Three boys and a girl were taken to the hospital.
"All the students are stable, no life-threatening conditions," Cmdr. Stephen Vinansky said. "All the students are accounted for."
Authorities said three of the victims were found inside the school, awaiting medical attention. The fourth victim arrived at the hospital with a family member.
The school was placed on lockdown as law enforcement investigated.
Sky 4 video showed several police officers investigating near the school in the 1100 block of North Murtland Street.
A ShotSpotter alert indicated that 10 shots were fired, Vinansky said. No suspects have been identified.
When asked if the incident was a drive-by shooting, Vinansky said it's still under investigation.
"It's too early to tell if this was targeted or random," he said.
Authorities said three victims are 15 years old and one is a 17 year old.
Pittsburgh Public Schools said Westinghouse will operate remotely on Wednesday.
Gainey in a statement asked the community to "know and celebrate (Westinghouse's) accomplishments, and not just focus on the violence we saw today."
Gainey said, "For too long gun manufacturers have been able to avoid any accountability for their role in our ongoing epidemic of gun violence. Earlier today I called to change the law that gives manufactures immunity from lawsuits so we can hold these manufacturers accountable for the innocent lives that have been harmed by their weapons.
"Our city deserves to have a lasting peace, and that means we have to work to find ways to resolve our conflicts that don’t involve using guns and bullets. We can and must do better for our children and for our future."
