Washoe County School District Police Department investigators arrested 32-year-old Ryley Coker on Thursday, September 21. Coker is charged with several felonies relating to children, including the solicitation of a juvenile for prostitution and the abuse of a child including sexual exploitation.

The investigation into Coker’s activities was initiated by WCSD PD detectives, who worked in collaboration with the Regional Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit. The investigation was triggered by information suggesting that Coker had been in contact with a juvenile and had engaged in solicitation for prostitution.

In response to the arrest and pending legal proceedings, the school district took immediate action, placing Coker on emergency suspension without pay. Coker, who had been employed by the district since 2014, was most recently serving as a special education math teacher at Hug High School.

The Washoe County School District maintains a stringent hiring policy that requires all prospective employees to successfully pass a criminal background check before being hired.
