Boracay, Philippines - A shocking photo that has been circulating on social media that shows a group of Chinese planted a Chinese flag on the white shore of the station 2 in Boracay which drew different reactions among netizens. Alot of people find this as a challenge against the Philippine sovereignty . Alot were not too happy about it. This happened on Friday of November 15.
Boracay has been one of the most heavily visited tourist spots in the Philippines and this is the first time that a group of foreigners planted a foreign flag in Boracay. Since the reopening of Boracay on October last year, there has been a great number of list of controversies that involved chinese citizens, including chinese owned establishments that have sprung up and the increasing of Mandarin speaking chinese laborers and business owners.
This is similar to what happened to Prague last October when a group of pro-communist chinese disrespected the historical Lennon wall. The group Chinese brought the ideology of communism by drawing the number 70 with red paint which referred to the 70th anniversary of of the communist China that had a Chinese flag in it. The citizens of Czech Republic and the Pro-Democracy protesters of Hong Kong strongly condemned the Chinese group for desacrating the Lennon wall which was made for democratic platform.
China and the Philippines have established a good relationship since the Philippine Strongman leader Duterte came into power. President Duterte prefers to maintain that strong bond though the two don't share the same political ideologies. Philippines is apparently a democratic nation. Many citizens of the Philippines think Chinese are taking the advantage of creeping the Philippines which is very similar on how China encroaches Hong Kong.
