Typhoon Doksuri ( EgayPH) pounded northern Luzon on Wednesday, with its strong winds and torrential rains damaging several airports and halting sea travel from some ports, officials said.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines reported that Laoag International Airport's domestic pre-departure area will need repairs after incurring partial damage to its ceiling and doors. Operations were temporarily moved to the international pre-departure area.
Lingayen Airport's ramp was flooded due to heavy rainfall. Part of the roof of the airport's fire station collapsed due to strong winds, while Vigan Airport facilities also incurred minimal damage.
Flight operations in the Laoag International Airport and Tuguegarao Airport were also temporarily suspended.
Some airlines have announced flight cancellations as Typhoon Egay continues to batter northern Luzon.
CAAP advised travelers to contact their respective airlines for any changes to their flight schedules and alternative arrangements.
Meanwhile, over 1,675 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers were left stranded in seaports in Luzon and Visayas after state weather bureau PAGASA advised against sea travel due to Egay and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
The Department of Transportation said 49 vessels and 72 motorbancas are taking shelter in Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Southern Tagalog, and Metro Manila-Central Luzon.
Egay is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday morning.
The government has prepared over 173 million stand-by funds and assured the safety of nearly 40,000 affected families.RE
