American woman of Colorado sentenced to 40 years for murdering her own newborn child

22-year-old Peyton Green was arrested in Wyoming a year after killing her newborn child.

Another horrendous news took place in the United States wherein another American white woman murdered her own child and this time it is a newborn.

A Highlands Ranch mother received a 40-year prison sentence on Thursday for killing her newborn child.

Douglas County Judge Patricia D. Herron handed out the sentence to Peyton Green, 22, who was arrested in Wyoming on Sept. 30, 2021 after authorities said she killed her child a year earlier in Highlands Ranch. She was charged with first-degree murder, tampering with a body and attempt to influence a public servant.

The charges stemmed from the incident that occurred on Sept. 26, 2020. Green reported to the emergency room at UCHealth Highlands Ranch for vaginal bleeding. She consented to a Sexual Assault Nurses Examination and during the exam, nurses found lacerations consistent with giving birth, according to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Green denied ever being pregnant. Due to the evidence of childbirth, Douglas County deputies searched her home and later found a lifeless body “inside a tan grocery store bag underneath a towel in the cabinets below a bathroom sink.”

An autopsy on the child found that it was a live birth. The baby had died after.

Authorities said they traced an ex-boyfriend to Colorado Springs and contacted him. A search of Green’s phone found texts with the ex-boyfriend claiming she was pregnant.

Green pleaded guilty to child abuse, knowingly and recklessly causing death, which is a Class 2 felony.

“Had this mother told the truth about her pregnancy or called for help after giving birth, this tragedy may have been avoided,” District Attorney John Kellner said. “There were multiple ways to handle an unwanted or unexpected pregnancy, but her selfish and deceitful actions to hide a birth by dumping her newborn’s body in a bag like a piece of trash certainly warrants a lengthy prison sentence.”
