A woman is in NYPD custody after fatally striking a man on a moped in the Bronx on Saturday in what cops believe is a road rage incident, officials said.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting a collision at Fox Street and Intervale Avenue in Longwood at 2:22 p.m. Saturday.
A preliminary investigation showed that the 28-year-old woman was driving a red Honda Civic the wrong way on a one-way street, Fox Street, when she hit and killed 23-year-old Robert Jimenez of Concourse, the Bronx, police said.
Police confirmed that Jimenez was on a black moped and also driving the wrong way on Fox Street.
In the crash, Jimenez was thrown from his moped and suffered trauma to his body. He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln and pronounced dead, authorities said.
The woman is in custody, but she is currently in the hospital to treat minor injuries, so police said charges may take time to confirm.
Police said they believe this was a road rage incident and the incident has been deemed a homicide investigation, but the investigation is ongoing.
