A Topeka music teacher has been arrested by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) for sex crimes.
In May of 2023, the KBI initiated an investigation after a former student reported incidents that took place between January and May of 2018, when Stuckenschmidt was her music teacher at Unified School District 452 in Johnson City, a town of 1,464 people in Stanton County in southwest Kansas.
Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, KBI agents arrested 38-year-old Brian Stuckenschmidt on a warrant for rape and aggravated criminal sodomy.
Following his arrest, Stuckenschmidt was booked at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday into the Shawnee County Jail. Bond was set at $150,000, according to jail records. Stuckenschmidt was released from jail after bonding out at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The charges stem from allegations made by a former music student of Stuckenschmidt’s.
Up until 2020, Stuckenschmidt worked as a music teacher at the Stanton County Unified School District in Johnson City, Kansas. The female student reported that incidents had taken place between her and Stuckenschmidt from January 2018 to May 2018, initiating KBI’s investigation.
Stuckenschmidt moved to Hayden Catholic High School in June 2020 but, according to KBI, was placed on administrative leave by school officials as soon as they learned about the investigation in June 2023.
Stuckenschmidt will be booked in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. KBI’s investigation is ongoing.
