The Philippine "Sinigang" is hailed as one of the best vegetable soups in the world.

Garnering a total of 4.8 out of 5 stars, Sinigang was rated as the best vegetable soup in the world by TasteAtlas.

37 years ago, Asian-Canadian chef Stephen Yan showed to the world the elegance of a Filipino common dish by introducing the humble  "pork adobar" or commonly known as "pork adobo"  in the Philippines, in his top rated Canadian cooking show, the CBC's  "Wok with Yan.  Since then, the Filipino pork adobar or adobo became a popular asian food in the western countries.

Now, another Philippine dish is making a break through in the world and that is the popular "Sinigang." Sinigang has put the Philippines on the world's food map.

TasteAtlas, a website dedicated to celebrating traditional food from all over the world, said sinigang is the world's best-rated vegetable soup. 

To those who are not aware, Sinigang is a Filipino soup or stew characterized by its sour and savoury taste. It is most often associated with tamarind (Filipino: sampalok), although it can use other sour fruits and leaves as the souring agent. It is one of the more popular dishes in Filipino cuisine.

The Filipino-fave Sinigang has made it to the global food map. Garnering a total of 4.8 out of 5 stars, Sinigang was rated as the best vegetable soup in the world by TasteAtlas. 

Other top-rated vegetable soups include Turkey’s mercimek çorbası and Lithuania’s šaltibarščiai.

TasteAtlas described sinigang as a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine “with its sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country.”

The website also named Locavore and Sentro 1771 as among the restaurants that serve good sinigang.
