Tokyo-Filipino Artistic gymnast Carlos Yulo made the final of the Tokyo Olympics vault apparatus event after finishing within the top eight of the category Saturday evening at the Ariake Gymnastics Center.

Yulo averaged 14.712 in the two vaults, with the first being a Kasamatsu double full for a score of 14.766. He then magnificently executed the Dragulescu vault, which was enough for a score of 14.658.

He will be joined in the final on August 2 by Shin Jeahwan of Korea, Artur Davtyan of Armenia, Nikita Nagornyy and Denis Abliazin of the Russian Olympic Committee, Adem Asil and Ahmet Onder of Turkey, and Caio Souza of Brazil.

The 21-year-old, who is nursing a bruised hip, suffered a less-than-ideal finish in his pet event, the floor exercise, where he won gold in the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in 2019.

Yulo was awarded 6.600 in difficulty and 6.966 in execution for a total of 13.566 in the category, good for 44th overall.

He executed the double layout double full out, where he seemed to have flubbed the landing. Yulo also did not have the cleanest of landings in the second pass, which may have deducted his overall points.

Yulo scored 14.000 in still rings (24th), 13.466 in parallel bars (55th), 12.300 in horizontal bar (63rd), and 11.833 (69th) in pommel horse for a grand total of 79.877, ranked 47th overall, far away from the top 24 ranking needed to make it to the all-around final.
