The 30-year-old silver medal winner at Rio 2016 from the southern city of Zamboanga has realized her dream of pursuing the women's 55 kilogram (kg) class at the Tokyo International Forum during the 2020 Olympic Games theme, here briefly.

Carrying the weight of a country long seeking for Olympic glory, Hidilyn Diaz finally ended the seemingly interminable quest Monday night.

Diaz overcame his personal best to put world record holder Liao Qiuyun from China simply content with silver coins.

Her total lift of 224kg also set an Olympic record, beating a formidable field that included China’s world record holder Liao Quiyun.

Liao finished with the silver medal at 223kg. Zulfiya Chinshanlo of Kazakhstan claimed the bronze with 213kg.

As the Philippine National Anthem is played and the flag is being raised, Hidilyn Diaz could not hide her emotions. Tears of joy for the Philippines' first-ever Olympic gold medalist.

Philippine National Anthem played for the first time in the Olympics in an official game event. But it was previously played before when athletes from the Philippines dominated in the demonstration game which was in 1988 Seoul Olympics.
