Miya Ponsetto a white woman who attacked a black teenager whom she falsely accused of stealing her mobile phone is charged with felony hate crime.

New York city - A white woman from California who the authorities say falsely accused a black teenager in a hotel lobby in NYC in December last year is now charged with felony hate crime.

Miya Ponsetto is now charged with four serious crimes by the New York grand jury including unlawful imprisonment, as an apparent hate crime, endangering a welfare of a child, and aggravated harassment.


Miya Ponsetto appeared via teleconference in Manhattan courtroom. Her lawyer Paul D'Emilia pleaded not guilty on her behalf


Ponsetto's lawyer Paul D'Emilia pleaded not guilty in behalf of Ponsetto who appeared via teleconference in Manhattan courtroom on Wednesday.


Keyon Harrold jr. and his Father 


Ponsetto accused of attacking 14 year old Keyon Harrold jr. who was with his Father a well known musician in Arlo hotel.  The attack took place in the hotel's lobby in December last year, when she falsely accused his son for stealing her mobile phone.

The horrible incident was all captured by the Keyon's father on video and instantly went viral on different social media platforms. Posetto was clearly seen aggravately attacking Keyon and she was accused of racially profilling the teen ager, which she denied.

"The charges alleged are a brazen and clear overreach of the intent of the statute. In sum, they are absurd, and a perversion of our legal system " D'Emilia told the local news.

Keyon's Father Keyon Harrold sr.  retweeted an article about the charges on Wednesday but didn't comment furthermore.

Ponsetto is now on a supervised release and her next court date is on October.
